Spring Equinox at Mnajdra Temples, Ħagar Qim – Qrendi, Malta
20th March 2018
Dating back to 3600–3200 BC, the Mnajdra Temples (just 500 metres from the megalithic site of Ħagar Qim) are an awe-inspiring attraction. Imagine catching sight of the first sunrays (on the first day of the Spring Equinox) lighting a path along the corridor of megaliths until the altar stone at the back is illuminated in a glorious blaze. Built by a prehistoric agricultural society to observe the motion of the stars, the moon and the sun, this ancient solar temple offers a very powerful connection with an ancient time especially during the Spring Equinox. Tickets can be purchased from Heritage Malta’s sites and museums and only a limited number of tickets are available.
